Sample for the vet
11 Answers
I have received a reminder from the vet for my dog's annual booster injection but, this time, he is offering to check for kidney disease, diabetes, etc. I am required to provide a urine sample (from the dog). I have not been faced with this before; how do I get my dog to pee in a bottle?

Just be prepared with a small plastic bowl, and wait till she crouches for a wee and pop the bowl under her. Then decant into a bottle as suggested in the previous post. Only a small amount of urine is required for the dip-stick test for diabetes. Hope you are successful in your efforts, and hope all goes well with your dog.
Stupidly, I hadn't though about catching it in a bowl first !
I will have to follow her, bowl in hand, past a series of fenceposts as she doesn't seem to be able to resist marking (almost) anything upright. Incidentally, her name is Lottie. Thanks for treating my query seriously --- I wasn't taking the p*ss.

When working with racing greyhounds at the bigger tracks they always take a wee sample to test before racing. You have to catch it in a bowl and take it to the tester. One of the pranks they play on new staff is to tell them you need a poo sample and see the look on their face, and then the face of the tester when they turn up with a bowl full of poo!
