owl licence?

if i were to keep a tawney owl in the uk what licences woiuld i need?

Why would you want to keep one ? it would be cruel to take it out of the wild. :{

i wouldent take it out of the wild...there are people who breed owls for a living. and whats wrong with that...thousands of animals get taken out of the wild to be kept as pets like tropical fish,reptiles,amphibians,aracnids and falcons.

There is quite a difference between reptiles, amphibians and aracnids and an owl. They should not be kept in captivity unless there is a medical reason or similar. Breeding them for captivity is wrong. Think again Spudo.

but i think it is right to keep an owl who has only know a life of captivity.
so how is it wrong to keep them in captivity if they have only know a life from the inside of a cage.
a life of a captive owl is much better that a wild one anyway,(if flowen every day and looked arfter) there life span can be prolonged by up to 40%, and there is no other species to conted for food with.

you could not relese them-they would die?
you can not keep them according to you?
so what would you do with the ofspring-sell them to people who want to keep them as pets is what i would do.

If it is possible that a pair of injured birds could mate they should be kept apart or have some sort of treatment to stop them breeding. It is CRUEL to keep wild birds as pets even if their lifespan is increased, they belong in the wild!!

well thats your opinion.
i dont see it as cruel, the owl is still happy...yes they have wings and they would get used every day and night if i kept one as a pet.
and if birds went kept in captivity then there would be a huge hole in the scientific knowlage of birlds and reasearch.

If the Owl could speak when asked "Would you rather live 40% longer behind bars or would you rather take your chances out in the wild?" Its a pretty safe bet the owl would go for the wild.

So unless an Owl is injured for life and has to stay in a rescue centre, leave them to live free.

The bird must be fitted with a microchip and / or a ring by the breeder, but you do not need a licence to keep a captive bred tawny owl.

cool because i allready have a tawny owl and has been in the family for 15 years and she has a ring put on by the person who we bought her of.
