Do dogs and cats walk differently ?

Cats appear to me to adopt a 'slinky' gait.
Is this a characteristic of a predator, or are my perceptions at fault ?

Both are predators but a cat more so and hunts by stealth and pounce, while a wolf runs down its prey with perseverance - hence the different gait.
It seems that cats, when running up and down the stairs at silly o'clock in the morning, can sound like a herd of rampaging elephants.
