Is it a mountain??
Seemed like bl00dy Everest when I climbed it. Never again.
There is no formal definition of a mountain. More here:

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Mountain

Mount Everest is over 29,000 feet wheras Snowdon is only 3,560 feet.

So it is all relative.

The people of Tibet would say that Snowdon is NOT a mountain compared with Everest, but Snowdon is the highest point in Wales so the Welsh would say it IS a mountain.

It is a bit like saying "I am going for a LONG walk"

To some people a long walk is 3 miles, to others it might be 25 miles.

Anyway, does it mattfer, just climb it.

If you do that OK then try Everest next.

i've climbed it already but i didn't know wether to count it or not
Yes, it is.
Yes, it's pinned onto maps as a mountain. Never climbed it myself, but I know someone who has - or at least three quarters of the way up it, and he also said - never again. Lol.
Climbed it last year, went prepared in sturdy walking boots, extra fleece in case it was cold at the top, waterproof in case of rain, plenty of water etc etc, couldn't believe it, got overtaken by little kids skipping along in shorts and t-shirts like they were out for a day in the park!
Its a very crowded mountain, but the view from the top is worth it:-)
Did you stop for a breather on the way up? I know children've climbed it, but I imagine that in bad weather it's it's a bit of a killer.
Several breathers! It gets quite steep towards the top, but its not like you're scrambling over rocks, there's a well defined path, like I said, its VERY popular, and such a shame about the cafe construction site at the top, I mean.....why?
Ohhhh..there isn't is there? Yep - talk about spoiling things!
Yeah, seem to remember Prince Charles had a rant about it, one of his "monstrous carbuncle" speeches, good for him!
Off to bed, nite nite ice, sorry to have hi-jacked your thread befuzzled!

There has been a cafe on the top since the 1930s, they are just upgrading it.

There is a train that goes to the top, is the cafe not for people who use the train (toilets etc)

it was really crowded when i went up as it was a warm day
i went with a group of people and ended up doing a detour due to failed map reading, we had planned a specific route, and so i began to die from 3/4 of the way up whereassome members of the group we could see running the last set of steps. i enjoyed it and now i can tick it off the list ^_^
It's the highest mountain in England & Wales. I have climbed it once on the Llanberis route which was very hard for a beginner but a fantastic experience and one i'll be repeating soon. As with the other replies, I was dressed in the suitable gear for climbing a mountain and was amazed at how many people were just dressed in shorts n tea-shirts. I imagine these people will always be around to keep the rescue teams in businness and the death toll climbing.
