Our two goldfish have white kind of fluffy bits attached to some of the edges of their fins. The water is clean and we have treated them with fin rot treatment but there is no change.  What else can we do and are they likely to recover?

this is not fin rot it is fish fungus it requires a different treatment - see you local pet shop

Hi macleod, this sounds like a fugal infection to me.  I have seen this before on fish that I have had in the past.  One thing to try would be to add a small amount of sea salt to the water as this seems to clear up the infection and heal any damaged cells (scales).  The white fluffy bits that you are referring to will soon disperse into the water and leave a nasty pink patch where the fish's scales once were.

If you do not already have a mechanism for circulating air into the tank (a pump or similar device) it is recommende that you invest in one as this will also supply the fish with the air that they need.  Regular cleansing of the tank and the addition of salt water (a small amount only) should clear this up in no time!!!

Hope this helps?!???

if you a doing a water change never change more that 20% of the tank volume at any one time and if you are using tap water allow it to stand for 24hr beforehand.
