8 week old puppy itching but no fleas

We just bought an 8 week old Rhodesian Ridgeback pup. He had his inocculations and was microchiped the day we picked him up (yesterday).
The thing is he has been itching all day and night. We cant see any fleas on him, and his vet report says he is due frontline at 10 weeks. We think its unlikley any vet would allow him to leave the surgery with untreated fleas.
Could it me the insertion of his microchip that has caused this irritation?

A quick phone call to the vet who inocculated the little fella yesterday may be beneficial and should help resolve the problem.

It is far more likely to be the innoculations than the microchip. When you take him back for the second set of jabs, please do not let the vet give him a flea treatment at the same time. One dose of chemicals is enough for any pup, so unless you see that he has got fleas then he does not need flea treatment, and certainly not on the same day as inocculations, same goes with worming treatments, try to make sure these are all done at different times as a pups immune system is very delicate.

Thanks for your answers. I have taken him to my own vet and he looked him over and saw some little scabs on his hocks.
He said it could be that he's caught fox mange from the other dogs where he was born (he ascossiated with about 8 other dogs including his siblings). The vet has given him some stonghold, and reckons that should do it.
