neglectful/ignorant pharmacists preparations were too strong for polo ponies.

"we're only human" excuse for error unacceptable!

disgusting, their attitude is they were only ponies
Don't be fooled by the casual attitude to the pony deaths. Those responsible know how serious any error is. It's just that, fortunately for them, this time they won't be jailed! However, they'll find it really hard to be trusted again.
It's not quite as straightforward as it sounds. The medication which was given to the horses is banned in the USA and for this reason is unobtainable. Despite this at least one vet looking after these horses ordered a supply of the drug from the pharmacy giving them a recipe to follow. At this stage I'm not sure that anyone knows whether the mistake was in the recipe or in the way it was made up though the culprit is believed to be a selenium overdose by a factor of ten. Nobody comes out of this well and I expect that all concerned have a probable court case in mind when talking to the media. From the point of view of the pharmacy I suspect they were merely emphasising the fact that no human beings had been put at risk.
