In his song 'Wildwood', Paul Weller asks the listener to come out of the Wildwood. Was he refering to the ancient virgin forest that once covered the British Isles? If not, what did he mean?

There are many American Folk Songs (no not Country and Western) that refer to The Wildwood and they are generally from the Virginia area.  The Carter Family sing several songs mentioning the wildwood.  Having said that many of the folksongs from America have been heavily influenced by British Immegrants.
