Corn snake

I would like to buy a corn snake but im not sure what would need to go into the cage and what food they eat? does anyone know thanks.

if you buy a baby they go into quite small plastic boxes (with ventilation!), they are scared of large spaces and will need somewhere to hide within the box.
they eat "pinkies", baby dead mice, I think it's one a week to start with, then after some time 2 a week. my son's corn snake is now on "fluffies", which I assume are slightly older dead baby mice. these are bought frozen from the snake pet shop. he'll be moving into a larger tank soon.
it's all too gross for me. it's at his dad's and long may it stay there!

Hi. Snakes normally live in glass tanks, with a hood, a special light, and depending on the type of snake, sometimes an under floor heater, or a heater similar to a fish tank heater. They also need some kind of changeable floor covering in the tank for cleanliness. Another point to consider is, are you prepared to keep frozen mice in your freezer. The mice have to be removed from the freezer to thaw out, and brought up to room temperature before being fed to the snake. I have no experience of Corn Snakes, having only kept a Rock Python, (4ft long, and he only needed feeding once every 3 weeks), so I think the best idea would be for you to google (Corn Snakes, housing, feeding, handling and care of). You should be able to find some comprehensive advice on there, before you make up your mind to buy one. Best of luck. Schutz.

it really does depend on weather its a real snake or a corn on the cob that you will pretend is a real snake

I would seriosly suggest that if you are going to buy a reptile that you should buy a couple of good books from your local pet shop and read all about the animal before you decide if it is the kind of commitment that you would like to take on..

Keeping reptiles is not as simple as keeping a hamster or dog etc..

They need special environments and special care. Many people decide it is not a good idea when they find out that they need to feed there snake with frozen mice...

Corn snakes are wonderful pets but please do your research beforehand.

I worked in a shop that specialised in reptiles and I would not sell a reptile until the customer could answer a few basic questions regarding their care..I always insisted on selling the customer at least one book on their chosen pet and asked them to come back after a week or so..Almost all the customers were happy with this and did come back having decided whether they did or did not want the pet..
