Puppy nipping
31 Answers
I have an 11 week old border terrier that nips - albeit in a playful manner at the moment, but i want to stop it before it becomes a habit. She draws blood and even if i give a firm 'NO' she still continues and thinks its a game. Any suggestions welcome, thanks.

When it nips you give a sharp high pitched squeak, this is what it's litter mates would do when it oversteps the mark in play fighting. It will stop immediately, you should then give it a toy that it is allowed to chew.
She will soon learn that nipping is not acceptable.

well our puppy sabre turned out to be a little timid and my dad wanted a guard dog. so one of his police friends came one night and hit the gog with his batton. after that sabre was the perfect guard dog and at the same time gentle to those he knows. u can try go the gentle route I guess but in the wild if a puppy nips another dog will the other dog screach at it? i doubt it.
Beaty; you are once again trying to be controversial so I will not rise to it.
However, this is a very young puppy who, in the wild, would still be surrounded by it's litter mates and pack members, not strange dogs. Watch litter mates play fighting and this is exactly what they will do if a nip is too hard.
I am assuming that Lee wants a dog that is neither timid nor aggressive but a well balanced dog that will be welcome in society.

I shall treat this reply with the contempt it deserves BeatySwalls.... I bet your Father felt very proud of himself!
I have seen your replies to other posts and they all seem to follow the same sort of theme. You really do need to get a life if all you have to do with your time is to stir up peoples emotions because it's the only real hope you have of receiving communication from real human beings. How pathetically sad for you!
I dont intend answering any further replies you may send, so please dont bother. Im not participating in your games any further than this point. Sorry to disappoint....

if you think giving a puppy a firm slap on the nose to prevent it growing up and potentially seriously harming someone and then itself having to be put down is bad? well let me see hmmm there are how many poor animals dying just to feed your desire to eat meat.
and you think a slap to HELP a puppy and the safety of the human race is bad?
well well well. please dont reply to this I dont want to argue here ok. you have proved your point very well. goodbye

Let me know how you get on with your pup, post on here?
Try to socialise her as much as you can both with other dogs and humans (after vacinations), but be careful that she only encounters friendly dogs early on. Try to introduce her to cats as well because being a terrier she will want to chase and this could be a dangerous and possibly costly to you if she managed to catch one.

Lock a dog in a cupboard?
Policeman hitting a dog with a baton?
Dog chase a cat for a free meal?
This person is a disgrace. Do what I did on the thread I started where he was insulting to everyone. Ignore him and do not answer him. He is just trying to goad people into answering so he can play around with people's emotions.
