i have found a female pheasant, sat in our garden, with very tiny baby pheasants, she was not there last night. i'm concerned about her, i've left her alone, as i thought that is what bill oddie would recommend, but it is still very unusual and i am quite worried about her and her little brood. i'm tempted to feed her. any advice.

Why not contact your local RSPCA or wildlife rescue group? They should be able to tell you how to identify if a brood has been abandoned. They should also be able to give you advice on how and what to feed.

Post some pics of the little critturs.

why did i not think of that - not such a 'bright spark' will contact them asap. after doing a photo shoot.
Did you mean you didn't see mother or chicks last night, because in the next breath you say you've left her alone, so presumably she is there today. So long as the temporary nest in your garden is in a safe place, and there are no marauding cats or dogs, she'll be ok and can look after herself and the chicks. If you are able to get fairly close without startling mum, you could sprinkle some wild bird seed fairly near (a yard or so) from her. Hope all goes well, please report back. Schutz.
