Goes for other dogs
PLEASE help, I need advice. A few days ago we rehomed a gorgous 1 yr old black lab, who we have all fallen for, he is great with the kids and lovely natured until out for walks. The prob is when we have him out walking he goes for other dogs, we cant make out if he is aggressive or desperate just to get over to them, he pulls madly in their direction and his bark goes between a puppy bark, a cry and an aggressive one.
My partner and I walk him on seperately everyday for an hour each (we had this routine before dog also for our own exercise) Bu obviously we want to enjoy him as a family and take him out with the kids etc. PLEASE advise. Apparently he was neutured 3 weeks or so ago.
(also advice on stopping him pulling on the lead would be great too)
Thanks in advance

Straining to get at the other dog sounds more like over enthusiasm in your dog, but it needs dealing with. He is a young dog so should soon learn. Unfortunately you probably dont know how well socialised he was previously
Good luck

For the pulling try just stopping each time he pulls and walk in the other direction.Just keep doing it for as long as it takes..he will eventually realise that pulling just doesn't get him anywhere. The thing that really has helped us with our lab is a sliplead ( as opposed to a flat collar and lead but you need to know how to use it properly.) The training class I went to made all the dogs ignore each other by saying 'leave it' and giving a sharp tug on the lead, each time the dog went towards another. It worked for every dog in the class but you have to be really firm every time he does it.If he is still so young he'll be excited too. I get a lot of info from labrador forum. It's great for help and advice from lots of lab owners.
