What is wrong with people.. dont they realise how stupid a mistake this is to make?
I cant bear to read these kind of news articles anymore - those poor animals must have suffered terribly.
it makes me feel sick

This one just proves to me that there is not enough legislation with people keeping dangerous animals. I know this was in the US but anyone in this country can keep a snake without any registration. I think it's about time we looked at bringing in laws about keeping these dangerous snakes.

The following reports are but a fraction of the hundreds, even thousands, of instances where every year dogs are left in parked cars to die. A lucky few survive. (One county animal shelter reports getting three to six heat-related calls of animal cruelty or animals in distress each day.) Also, many young children die as a result of being left in parked cars in the summertime. One Web site tracked 16 toddlers and infants dead in 2008 in the span of only two months.
Its not only animals.
HOW IS IT ALLOWED TO HAPPEN?
Stupid people .
Simple as that stupid selfish people.
And you cant legislate against stupidity.
Well you can legislate , but you cant make stupid people intelligent.
Even more shocking when you read that almost as many children as animals die .
Its not only animals.

I heard a story - not sure if true or not - a woman had a pet snake.. not sure what type - and it was fine and healthy and she used to let it out of its tank each night.
She took it to the vet as she noticed that it had started to lie in a straight line when near her and she was worried there was something wrong with it - as it wasnt coiling up as before.
The vet said she had to have it put down immediately as snakes do this when sizing up 'prey' and the snake was seeing if the woman would fit inside him!
GROSS!
Why would people want to keep a snake eh?

I just cant bear these stories - so tragic.
I think maybe what we can ALL do in times of this UK heatwave is to be vigilant when shopping in supermarkets etc - and when parking our cars - look for any car that has a window left open and a dog in it. Then immediately report it to the store or GET THE ANIMAL OUT of the car - using force to enter a car may be legal if the animal is suffering!

This is totally unacceptable; these are supposed to be specially trained dog handlers! What chance do animals stand if even these people don't give their highly trained working animals a thought.
Anyone seeing an animal/child in a car on a hot day should immediately take action; depending on the particular circumstances. Either get it out straight away, call the RSPCA or get the staff to put a call for the owner to return straight away.
These dogs were in a van so only the handler would be aware that they were in there.

Look, guys, it's irrelevant that these were Police dogs: two gorgeous animals have died simply because of the carelessness and thoughtlessness of a human being.
But before everyone damns the individual forever and calls for him to be strung by the b*lls from the highest tree in Nottingham, consider this:
1. He is subject to an RSPCA investigation with its eventual ramifications.
2. He is also subject to internal Police discipline procedure.
3. His future career prospects are probably in tatters.
Now, I haven't made these distinctions to try to mitigate what this idiot did. I, too am a dog owner and am distraught for the suffering these beautiful animals went through.
But the facts are that the vast majority of us who did this would be subject only to example 1, not 2 or 3. Therefore, this guy will be hit a lot harder than any of us would be.
And, yes, yes, before people state the obvious, I'm fully aware that these poor dogs were working animals used by the Police etc etc, but the bottom line is that his punishment will far outweigh that to anything anyone else may receive.
Is that in itself fair? It doesn't make it any better, but reports suggest that he'd left the dogs in a private car as opposed to a Police vehicle, indicating that he wasn't even on duty at the time.

A good point made parraffin - and sadly the same result - two beautiful dogs suffer enormously in their deaths...
I hate seeing or reading anything about animals being wounded or injured - and its even more tragic that this was totally avoidable....
Like I say before - can we all be vigilant.. and look out for in car parks etc any animals that may have been left in hot cars - we do come across them (thankfully not often). And maybe one of us here one day can save the life of an animal left to die in hot vehicles...

When I read this article yesterday I was angry and upset.
But their handler would not have had the two dogs if he had not been a dog lover. They worked as a team and had a great bond. He alone is responsible for their demise.
I can't help but feel sympathy for the man - he killed his two best friends through his own stupidity. He has to live with this.

Our point sweatyballs is that it was AVOIDABLE... and that there are caring animal lovers out there (probably including the dog handler himself!) and that these poor animals must have suffered horribly.
So get over yourself and let the rest of us act in a caring manner if we choose to - cos its just as well there are caring folk out there... and we're not all like you!

ok nosha but i think your inability to see the grander scheme of things is not right. sure care about a few dogs that dies a horrible death through an accident means you are a good person but why raise such a trivial event like this when stuff around the world happens is 1000 times worse. maybe ignorance is bliss in your case
