I'd like to think that the perpetrators of the attacks have four legs and not two? If so, and the snipers spot them, I'd also prefer it if they, the snipers, opened fire to scare as opposed to kill.
After all, foxes, for example, are only doing what comes natural to foxes, are they not? They wouldn't know that the penguins are an endangered species, as if they'd care anyway!
But should the culprits have two legs, I'd say aim for the whites of the eyes!

Foxes dont kill for sport, they faced with a huge amont of food then kill as much as they can then take their kills off and bury/store them for later.
i feed foxes nearly every night and watch them go back and forth with small amounts of food each time.
