I've never kept caged birds & I'm not an expert on them, although I know Parrots like sunflower seeds.
Would you be thinking of the Ring necked parakeets or the Rose ringed parakeets as they are sometimes called?
If yes, that means you must live in the London area as these exotic visitors now number in excess of 4, 000 in the UK, the stronghold being in Esher and surrounding districts area and regularly visit birdtables. They are now so common that they are now included in Bird ID books, although we only have a handful in Dorset, thank goodness.
