Personally, I just buy a couple of pound of loose Wild Bird Seed at a time, from the local Wilkinsons store. Also the same amount of bird nuts. We have such a variety of wild birds that visit our garden & they all love them.

I've never kept caged birds & I'm not an expert on them, although I know Parrots like sunflower seeds.

Would you be thinking of the Ring necked parakeets or the Rose ringed parakeets as they are sometimes called?

If yes, that means you must live in the London area as these exotic visitors now number in excess of 4, 000 in the UK, the stronghold being in  Esher and surrounding districts  area and regularly visit birdtables. They are now so common that they are now included in Bird ID books, although we only have a handful in Dorset, thank goodness.

I can't add anything to Smudge's post - just ignore mine if you meant the caged parrot variety!

All of the above & I've found that a separate feeder full of black sunflower seeds attracts lots of finches too.

The only parrots I see in my area are the occasional escapee!

(Cetti, smudge, should we be called the 'Birdwomen Of Answerbank'?)

noddy - yes that sounds like a great idea! I love birds - well the feathery kind of course!

 I agree too, noddy!

What about shortening the title to Boa's - sounds a bit more scary, don't you think?

Apologies to priyawarekar for cross posting - sorry!
