my cats use their mouth to mark things, they will rub up against something like a table or shoe, i am wondering how long their scents last on the object that they are marking? this is a weird question but an interesting one. thanks a bunch
The scent glands are actually in the cheeks. They rub the side of their mouth on the object first to moisten it so the scent lasts longer.
The time it lasts and type of scent depends on their gender and at what stage of their sexual cycle they are. Cats can tell a lot from a scent.
The stinking territory scent from a tom cat is urine past along the anal gland.
