Does Cod Have Worms?

I have a delight every weekend in visiting a local fish bar where the owner batters and cooks a frexh fillet of cod for me.
He is extremely hurt that over MANY years of visiting his shop I have never purchased chips with my fish since I simply do not like them.
Upon recounting this to a relative she expressed disgust that I ate cod since she is certain that cod are bottom feeders and as such contain "worms".
She claims that if one eats cod, unless there is an "R" in the month , it will contain "worms".
She went on to claim that she had tested this by purchasing cod fillets and leaving them in a bowl of water over night and found that worms had left the fish during the night and been in the water in the morning.

Personally I think that this is a load of old "BULL FISH" and I have just enjoyed an ample portion of freshly prepared cod (no chips). If there were any worms in it (as there are no "R's" in August ) I found them every bit as delicious as their host and sincerely hope that they are enjoying a burgeoning family reunion in my lower gut with their family members who I HAVE CONSUMED OVER THE PAST 60 YEARS.
WHO CAN TELL ME THE TRUTH OF THE MATTER???

I have heard rumours in the past that cod have worms....but never the months with 'R' bit. I too would think that overall it is a load of codswollop...lol

after 60yrs...the worms would have taken over by now if all that was true.

cod liver oil cleans the gut....worms would have difficulty there.

Once its cooked even the worms become protein - enjoy.

I distinctly remember reading a few years ago that cod certainly can have tiny worms in its flesh, which you can sometimes see - which obviously causes alarm.

I think they must be tiny. They do no harm to humans, according to a fishmonger writing at the time.

I suspect they are so small (not to mention so dead) that if you've eaten cod you may well have eaten the worms too and been none the wiser. And had no ill effects - hopefully.

My degree is in marine biology and when I was at university we desperately tried for months to find cod worms. They are not that common (or they weren't) and they won't do you any harm.
If you knew half of what went on in fish, you would never eat it again!

My neighbour only eats cod, - she's always said that haddock has worms....haha...and she's getting on for 80!

A bit late to reply to this but yes, cod does have worms - I worked in a hospital kitchen and the chef showed them to me - ugh! You can't see them when it is cooked. Put me right off.

I Spent 5 years a a fishmonger, yep they do have worms, as long as the fish is properly cooked they would not be noticed. lots of other fish have them too. Never found any in Haddock though.
