I found a dead turtle on the beach in Queensland, Australia.  How do I   clean it out and polish the turtle shell without damaging it?

You do know all Australian marine turtle's are protected by law and that taking any flora or forna from a national park or protected area is forbidden regardless of its health.

Iam assuming your an Australian.  Where you get it from? How big is it?

Now on to what help i cant give you.  Contact your local aboriginal clan they showd have some knowledge regards the slaughter and preservation of turtles or if it was legaly obtained contact your local taxidermist and for a fee he will do a professional shell extraction.

The turtle was found dead.  I don't beleive Morna deserved a scalding for that.  Are you proposing a decent burial Scarew?

Thank you LS.... I agree with you totally!

Morna did say that it was found after it had died .... A purely ligitimate question.

However Scarew you actually did have a valid response with regard to the taxidermist - Morna, either try that or a vet..... Hope that this helps!

scarew said that it is illegal to take it regardless of its health, so therefore it is illegal, surely, to take a dead turtles shell? i also want to know, morna, why do you wish to keep this poor turtles shell anyway? as a trophy? i thought that was not pc.
