3 Answers
My Chi has had 22 teeth out at the vets and the rest cleaned, he is 10 but they told me to feed him rice and fish or rice and chicken for 2 weeks, he does not eat the fish and only eats a very tiny bit of the rice he has lost weight, i have had him for 5 weeks he wants to eat, i have given him some very tiny tit bits of soft bread and a few crumbs of biscuits which he loved, would it be advisable to give him his dog food which is very soft, i will break it all up before giving it to him, i do not no whats best to do, but i hate seeing him hungry...

Gradually you will be able to reduce the amount of liquid until he is ok eating the dry biscuit. This will also hopefully help to keep the rest of his teeth in a clean and healthy condition. You could also try one of the puppy porridge foods which will give him all the goodness he needs to help get over the stress of the operation.
Hi lankeela. my dog is eating ok he eats our biscuits & bits from me, he has still some teeth left and is over the op, but the after care i got from the vets says to give him rice with chicken or fish, it's just he doesn't like it he wants his normal food to eat, he has butchers choice cuts which are very soft, i think the nurse said its something to do with the food and there gums where the teeth were takin out. I just wondered if it would do him harm to give him his normal food now, his op was last thurs, he can eat it as his mouth is fine.. thanks..
