Feel really mean.... but the RSPCA called me at home last night as I donate each month to them £5 by DD. They were asking for people to raise the amount to £10 each month.. and they are struggling as abandoned pets have shot up by 60% in recent months due to recession.

I feel really mean now as I really cant afford to increase the money I give them.. I know its not much... but every penny really counts right now... but I keep thinking about all the poor abandoned animals!!!

I did promise to give them more money when things are better financially...

Do any of you lot donate to them???

Tugs at the old heart strings eh.. Little Harvey Pickle Pants doesnt realise how lucky he is to have a mummy who spoils him like I do!

You're not mean because you are doing your bit to help. I have an abandoned dog too, and he is spoilt rotten. The situation is the same here in Spain and I know how you feel. Why don't you just have a clear out of old stuff and take all your unwanted items to an animal charity shop. ?

I used to have a Standing Order set up with my bank to donate money monthly to a major charity, but they began phoning so often to ask me to increase the amount (which I did several times), that in the end I got fed up with it and cancelled the arrangement completely. Then they phoned to ask why I'd cancelled, so I told them. I put money in collecting boxes now.

Calm down chaps.. I was referring to my pussy... CAT....
hehe.. frisky friday eh!!!

anyhow - home time now... off to get in the car for a wee drive home...
Nosha - don't feel mean. You are doing more than some and as much as you can afford. Unfortunately, I do think that if the RSPCA cut some of their enormous administration costs they would have more to spend on abandoned animals.

I don't donate to them - I ended up having a bit of a hissy fit with them when I lost my cat (I phoned their lost animals helpline and they were more concerned with getting my debit card details than trying to suggest things I could do to help find the little sod). The local cats rescue centre on the other hand were absolutely brilliant so I now donate to them. If I've got a bit extra cash I also pop in every now and again with a food parcel. You could do that if you find you have a spare couple of quid every now and again.
I gave £5.00 per month to the NSPCC and after a few months they rang me and by making me feel guilty have raised it to £7.00 per month.................I'm awaiting their next call...........
.............by the way I don't want to adopt.....
Oh and that's how their marketing works. By making you feel guilty!!!!!
Dammit craft - I had two lovely children right in mind for you!!! Lol

Anyway, the RSPCA are no doubt feeling a bit bruised. They just lost a £2.34m legal challenge to a will.
I gave money to the WSPA every month. I had to stop due to financial situations. Even when you do give them money they fish for more. I just couldn't look at the stuff they sent me as it upset me too much.
It's not really fair to guilt trip you into giving money, and as the saying goes, 'Charity begins at home'.
Yes BM but they are likely to appeal. I think it's dreadful, that poor woman helped on her parents' farm for 30 years and now the RSPCA are going to continue to fight her for it. They are also trying to get her to pay their costs and if successful she will have to sell the farm to meet them.
I won't give the RSPCA a penny while they spend so much on admin and political campaigns and when they are needed they won't come out unless the TV cameras are there.
Agree with lankeela although I do donate to a local charity and I'll buy pet food and donate to the box the supermarket has.
I don't like the way they fail to say they don't operate in Scotland, but are perfectly willing to ask for money here. Many people give to them thinking they are helping out animals in their area but not a penny of it is spent here. The SSPCA had to run a campaign explaining this and asking all Scottish donors to give to the SSPCA rather than the RSPCA.
Cancer Research did the same to me. I set up a DD, then they bombarded me with post asking me to pay more. I rang them and said if they didn't pack it in, I'd cancel the DD.

they packed it in!
I would never give money to the RSPCA (wonder if they are going to sue this site for use of their 'trademark'? as they are threatening GSD rescue UK!).

They think that these two GSD's are OK to be kept chained out winter and summer:

This is typical of how the RSPCA use your money to sue other people:

They should be grateful that we donate, and not hound us for more!! Its not good practice! they really should see that! I don't give by DD any more, I too put what I can afford into the collection boxes, they are losing out probably in the long run, but they should see this!................Welsh
