Please Please Please does anyone know why my two jack russell terriers decide that rolling in dog mess / fox mess and dead birds and frogs is fun. I find this activity infuriating but no matter how hard I try to stop them the more they seem to do it. Apart from this they are both well behaved and highly trained dogs, they just can,t speak English !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
My Jack Russell loves to have a roll about but never in anything smelly thankfully, my old dog however loved too stink the house out.
It's doggy eau de cologne, think about it, they smell each others bums just to say hello.
Its a natural problem with dogs, they do it to cover their scent. All of our dogs have done it over the years and we live in an area where foxes are prevalent. It stinks. There is no real solution
same here, the first time our first dog did it was 20 ish years ago. We were measuring up an empty house that we had put an offer in for. The house had lovely brand new pale gold carpets. Darling pup came rushing in from garden "smell me don't i smell lovely...Sunday so no shops open then. Luckily we were alone in the house, bundled stink pup into car and drove from hampshire back to surrey to bathe pup and detox the car. Since then all our dogs have done it. The best we can hope for is that they will stop when we yell
They'll all do it, given the chance, more's the pity. It's instinctive behaviour. The predator dog doesn't want to smell like a dog when its creeping up on prey.Well, that's their excuse. That's why they prefer the smelliest source. Me, I think they just enjoy it ! One of mine rolls on any pig's ear she's given, a practice as puzzling as it is unnecessary! You'll only stop it by distracting the dog.
