Wasp nest - will it be empty now?

We have a storage are (like a loft) in our Summerhouse - which is currently CRAMMED with our belongings for the new house... During Summer - I noticed some dopey looking wasps flying around (they had squeezed thru the smallest little gap in the hatch doors)
I taped all the edges up and it stopped them getting thru - so I know for a fact there is a nest in there.
When we come to empty the boxes from the storage space - will the nest be empty?

Do they build a nest and then move on after summer - or are they likely to either still be there or come back next Summer?

Would prefer to get all our stuff out while they are not around!!!!

I don't actually know the answer to your question, but I know a man who does. Look in Yellow Pages for a pest control operator, they charge about £50 to come out and dispose of the wasps but he will know if it is safe in the viscinity of the nest at this time of year and I doubt you will have to pay for that advice.

I would in any case play it safe, wasps can be very aggressive at the end of the season.
Leave open an oil-paint tin, the fumes will chase the wasps off.

thanks Lofty... thanks everyone!!
Oooo no, not wise to do it yourself. Naffed off wasps aren't pretty! I know its alot of money, but its better than being swamped by annoyed wasps if you happen to botch it.

The council will do it for about £40/50 and take the nest away afterwards.
