Artificial grass

Thinking of having my garden laid with artificial grass cos I hate mowing it and then there's the weeds etc, but it is expensive. Do you have or know someone who has artificial grass, and was it worth the cost?

I wonder about some people nowadays, anything to make life false and easier, false grass, teeth, boobys, eyelashes, even hair, where will it all end I ask myself........must dash, just going to get a false eye put in, but to answer your question, false grass is very expensive and not worth the cost.

There's nothing like the waft of a freshly mown lawn & I really enjoy mowing & gardening in general.

However, if you really can't physically cope with your lawn missprim - instead of paying out for expensive artificial grass, you could try sectioning it off & makng a little secret garden, with some parts in gravel & some in mulch & nice plants.

As Smudge suggests, gravel and lots of pots. Fairly easy maintenance and looks far nicer than artificial grass. Also somewhere to sit with a glass of wine.

Mmmm - we used to do just that Lottie until our neighbours moved in next door!

They have the 'hugest' football goal net, along with constant balls coming over & the sound of the balls banging against their fence! They have this year bought - again, they only do huge - trampoline! The screaming coming from that is enough to drive anyone in sane! No wonder I've been depressed this last few months! We can't even enjoy our garden anymore - only when the spoilt little brats are at achool!

When I say depressed - I mean I love our house, but would now like to move - thanks to them!

Have you seen any of my postings about our neighbours Smudge! We have lived here 30 years and they have been in their house 4 years. Last year they accused us of stealing some of their garden before they moved in and putting a fence up in their garden - and what's more this year we have had a solicitor's letter threatening us with court action for 'commandeering' their land!!!! Our boundary remains exactly where it was 30 years ago. They are totally horrible and have torn out all the hedges around their acre of land and now obviously wan't to start on ours. Continued drilling and machinery noises all day as well and he's a peeping tom to boot!!

There are four houses where we live and of all the places that they could have chosen to live they had to come and live next door to us!

I have lost my mother this year, Mr LL has been very ill, our neighbours are threatening court action and now I can hardly walk with sciatica and an arthritic hip, so am somewhat housebound.

So I'll join you in the anxiety/depression stakes!!!

Sorry missprim. I agree, don't bother with artificial grass, if you have to do something go with pots, etc.

Just to say Hi Lottie, so sorry you have had such a lousy time. There's nothing worse than having problems with neighbours, it really drags you down. Hope you can still enjoy the wildlife in your own garden. x

Hi Yoga. Yes I do enjoy the wildlife still, but him next door has ruined two summers for us with his continuous accusations and harrassment. He has also accused us of keeping dangerous dogs. This is they:

And apparently we have been fiddling with his electricity!!

What do you do about neighbours who are 5p short of a shilling???

How miserable to have that constant harassment. You just can't win with it short of moving, and why should you have to?

Our previous neighbour was a really lovely old gentleman. He spent so much time & money renovating his garden & was a real wildlife lover. This crazy mob who've moved into his house, had an excavator in in no time, ripping up the whole lawn, every tree, shrub & flower in sight, to make a boring plain football pitch & playground for their three boys! They make as much noise as they want to & there is absolutely no discipline!

My eyes are so sore from crying yesterday & my head hurts, but I'll keep taking the tablets!

P.S. Your two dogs look as though they wouldn't harm a fly! -x-

I'll just say sorry for butting in too .Artificial grass ..oh nooo ... other suggestions are much better .
I sympathise with those living next door to trampoliners .I have one .Now you see me now you don't ..screeeeam ..up and down until you go dizzy at the sight of them bobbing up and down,up and down, all day long in the holidays .
Jesus wept they drive me nuts .Thank god it's winter .I shouldn't say that because I'm a summer person but at least I don't have to listen to to screeeeeeeeeam whooo hoooo....every five minutes at the moment .And then they have the cheek to ask you to cut back the greenery that sort of shields you from this nightmare and get abusive when you refuse to do so even when it's not encroaching on their side. I give up with some people .

Just got back from the postbox - it's freezing out there!

Shaney - I really do empathise & can't believe how many people are buying these blinking great things for their gardens! Why can't they just take their kids to a park & let them scream their heads off there!

There are plenty of places our neighbour could have put their gigantic trampoline, but decided to put it one foot away from 'our' fence & directly behind one of the benches we used to enjoy sitting on, reading & generally chilling out, but that won't ever happen again whilst they're next door.

I actually took a photo of it from upstairs the other day, as he's now dragged it onto their patio, which is right next to our french doors! So now, when sitting or standing in our dining room we can see the top of it over our 6 foot fence & trellis top! He moved it there so they could still bounce on it without getting their feet wet on the grass!

Again, sorry missprim, but it's good to share experiences & let off steam. I'll clear off now though. -x-

It's lovely & sunny here, albeit cold, so when I get back from the shops with my daughter, I'm going out in the gardens to rake up some more leaves! It's good for the brain matter! -x-

Oh Lottie - I've thought of so many awful things to do to this family - so unlike me - but they have driven us to distraction. I bought some itching powder from a joke shop & thought of throwing that over the trampoline, but it has little holes in the bottom & would only slip through!

We've had litererally hundreds of footballs kicked up & over our trees & tall fence into our garden. I used to throw them back, but I now take them to someone who has a dog for it to play with them!

All the neighbours do, is go out & buy new ones! We'll never win! ;o{

There are lawn grasses on the market these days that do not grow as fast as traditional grass,there is also something on the market that you can add to water to water it that inhibits growth.I do not know what it is called but you would get advice on it from any good garden centre.If you hate mowing do not weed and feed it,I did that a couple of years ago and I was mowing it every 4 or 5 days,never again.

Why not move into a flat.You obviously don't like gardening and there are many flat-dwellers who hunger after a garden. Buying or swapping, I'm sure that there is someone out there with whom to do the deed .

Well I found it really interesting reading all your answers but there is no way I would move from where I live just because I hate cutting the grass as I have great neighbours, no hassle and nice and quiet but I am now in my 60's and I have to think of making everywhere as maintenance free as possible as the old arthritis hurts when I do the jobs I found easy to do years ago.I was hoping that perhaps I might have had an answer from someone who has got the artificial grass and what they thought of it but thank you all for your replies anyway.
