The average pussy cat is pretty fierce when in a foul mood - I have had to get antibiotics from the doctor a couple of times after my little princess has been in a strop. But a tiger? One playful swipe and you could lose a limb.
Why would anybody wish to keep a beautiful animal like that in a cage? I wonder how much was left of the guy when the police turned up.

OMG Lottie - anyone keeping a wild animal caged at home are so cruel.
A few years ago, we had to rehome a beautiful kitten that grew into a very vicious cat! She started off okay, but soon started lashing out, scratching anyone who went to gently stroke her. My husband ended up at the hospital for a tetanus jab, as his hand came up like a ballooon after she sunk her claws into it! Then when our third grandchild was a few months old, she scratched her face without any provocation!
That was supposedly a domesticated cat, so God knows what this old man looked like after an attack from a Siberian tiger!

When we were on a fly drive & stayed in Las Vegas, I remember seeing some white tigers kept in a hotel there. Anything for entertainment & money!
