Floaters

I've suffered from eye vitreous floaters for as long as I can remember, and my vision is certainly impaired as a result.   My optician is not concerned, and I have been examined in hospital by an opthalmic surgeon, who told me that this is an inconvenience rather than a serious problem, and there is no need to worry about detached retina etc.  

I have seen an American website (vitreousfloaters.com) which claims to be able to laser them.   Has anyone here had any experience of this, or has any tips to deal with this infuriating problem?

You really need to get your GP to refer you to a specialist. It seems from the advice you have received that the floaters are not anything other than the crap that gets caught in the vitreous humor as the foetus develops, but the point is that it is bothering you. This is possibly the point that your optician hasn't understood. You need someone to help you not be bothered by the floaters, or if this is safely possible, to remove them. Perhaps your GP will be helpful if you emphasise how troubled you are by the floaters.

I also suffer with so called floaters and was told by my optician that if they got worse or I developed more that they could be removed - if they bother your sight you should go back to the optician and see about what can be done.

I've had thse floaters in my eyes for a s long as i can remember.  When i mentioned it to my optician, he said that this was perfectly normal, everyone has them in varying degrees (for reasons already mentioned by Simms), and that they only become a matter of concern if they stop floating and become fixed. He didn't mention anything about being able to have them treated, and i've never heard of laser treatment for this conditon.  Maybe, if they are bothering you that much, you should pay a visit back to the optician and discuss the options available to you.  Happy New Year btw!! x :)

Thanks for those contributions  -  the eye specialist at hospital told me that if they do get worse there is a procedure to get rid of the bits of detritus involving cutting up the eye, but that is a measure of last resort.   She also told me that if flashing lights start, then seek advice, as that could be the sign of a detached retina ...
