algae in garden pond

Does anybody out there have any good suggestions to rid my pond of algae? I've plenty of plant covering but each summer the algae appears in large quantities. I use a filtration pump (not with a UV light) and I've tried proprietory brands of "pond clear" without success.

Any suggestions would be greatfully appreciated.

How big is your pond? If it is small/medium the only real answer is uv light plus a particle filter a large pond should stabilise with enough of the surface covered. Also do you top it up at all..... tap water can make it worse

I have tried barley straw a few times it helps but doesn't solve the problem completely

If you provide enough surface cover, like water lilies, floating plants, etc .. you should not have the problem.

Thanks for the tips. My pond is about 18ftx10 at the widest. I've got it well covered by plants and operate a pump (but not a uv type). I wonder if the number of fish has any connection. They breed like rabbits and at the last count there were over 80. Also, there a loads of newts, all of which points to a healthy environment, but still an algae problem.

I would recommend this anti algae pad - I tried it because it was cheaper than a vac or other products, but still wasn't completely sure for the very reason that it was so much cheaper - but it worked really well!
