The following sad story shows what happens if people do not think through breeding from their bitch, they ended up having the bitch and six unborn puppies put down.

It is sad that the dog and her pups had to be put to sleep, but they may have all died without medical treatment (not going to try spelling C-word).

Many people think that "boy dog + girl dog = £££££££".

Would be nice to know the full story of what happened.

Both myself and my sister have dogs, me a westie and her a lhasa apso. We have both been approached in the street by owners of bitches, asking if we'd loan them for stud, and this without asking for any papers/medical history for either dog. We've now had them neutered.

Sad story. Only the other month, a lady I see regularly walking her dog told me she had used her dog at stud with the 'lady over the roads dog'. I was not impressed.

As they have the mother of this bitch, presumably they had bred her themselves anyway, so as Staffies rarely have small litters they would have presumably had the money from selling that litter. Shame they didn't keep some of it for vets fees.

Shocking and shameful...we are such a greedy race....I know too many people who have bred from their dog/bitch only to have massive arguments all over money ! Sickening.

When you see the chavvy type owners of these 'bred-for profit-only' dogs you wonder if we should prevent the humans from breeding too.

Staffies are lovely little dogs and can be great pets - but the morons have ruined their reputation by their careless breeding of the breed.

I feel so sorry for the bitch, struggling to give birth and finally paying the price for it. Did these shameful owners not ever consider the value of pet insurance? I can say no more, too disgusted.

boxtops, I don't think insurance will cover a pregnancy/birth as it is looked upon as a deliberate act by the owners (getting the bitch pregnant).

I think this should be pointed out more to people as I suppose that many will do it thinking it is OK as the bitch is insured or the PDSA scheme will help out.

What does surprise me is that she eventually got taken to a vet - wonder how many more there are out there that are just left to die?

Latest info is that they left it so late to take her to the vet that the puppies were dead inside her, and the bitch was in such a state and in danger herself, which is why the vets would not let them take her away. In my opinion they should be reported to the RSPCA for cruelty.

Insurance will not cover breeding problems, unless you take out a special breeders policy.

I didn't know that pregnancy wouldn't be covered on insurance - I have only ever had bloke pets, or attended-too females. Interesting.
