holidaying with my dog next time

I am just back from an enjoyable 3 days in a swanky hotel but next time I am hoping to go to my friend's caravan in Donegal but taking my dog this time.

They have a very large acreage and so for the first few days I would hope to tie my dog to an extremely long rope so that he can get his bearings and not get lost . What measurements should I get for him and also where would I be able to buy this kind of preferably strong cord I guess - any ideas would be helpful to me. Thanks

Try a shop selling mountain wear and equipment. we use such a rope with a karabiner to ensure it is secure.

I use tracking leads attached to a harness as opposed to a collar.

are you going to let him out on his own then or is his recall so terrible??

because the area is mountainous and full of greenery - I dont think I would let him out first time just run around the area and then if myself and friends are out walking I will keep an eye on him.and maybe put a bell on him (I am deaf but my friends could hear him) Yes when I am with him his recall is not bad now - he seems to keep an eye on me as we walk. My other friends have a dog so I feel bad when my wee doggie is not with me as I know he would love all that.

Do I understand you that there is no fenced bit at all?

Think carefully before letting your dog run loose. If it saw sheep it might be off after them. The local farmers wouldn't like that.
While on holiday could you not keep it on a long lead?
