Hi! I have a lovely little jack cross boarder bitch. Shes 3 years old with not a bad bone in her body.... but.... she has just started barking at everything and everybody that passes our house. She also barks like billyo as soon as she exits the front door every morning. Sometimes whilst sitting on the sofa with us of an evening she will be curled snoozing, but 'something' outside makes her give a quiet 'oofff ' and she will look at the window even though there is nothing there to be seen..... We really dont want a barky dog and we dont know how to stop her. Verbal commands dont seem to be working and we want to nip this in the bud before it gets any worse... or louder!!!! please help!!!
Keep a spray bottle handy filled with water or a water pistol. Spray her whenever she barks and say something like 'where's the bottle' so she will know this means she is going to get a spray, then she will learn that if she barks she will get sprayed, and eventually you will only have to say the words.
I agree with Ratters 15, keep her well excised and plenty of toys to keep her mind of the barking. In saying all this jacks and borders are yappers by nature and you have both in one,so could be hard work to get her quiet lol.
