My dog is a Staffordshire Bull Terrior, she is just over one years old.  Everyone keeps commenting that she is going bald, on the sides of her head just above her ears.  It's getting more and more noticeable.  Does anyone know why this could be happening or if it's common in this breed of dog or whatever?

Thanks x

There is a mite that causes a skin problem for dogs called mange.  I would suggest you have it checked by a vet who should do a skin scrape to determine if it's a parasite or a bacterial problem.  An allergy of some type could also be to blame.

I must just say that it's not bald, bald - just thinning of the hair.

Thanks for your help

You are very welcome.  I hope you can find out what is causing the problem.  I did mean to ask if she is scratching.  That could actually be the cause of the baldness.  Still, best to have a vet take a look.

My SBT bitch had thinning hair along her flanks and just below her ears - the vet said that it could be a hormone imbalance or just the way she was! Sadly, she's since passed away and I now have two SBT puppies. The boy has a thick coat - and the girl is definately a bit thin around the ear area! I think its just a girl thing.
