Delighted to find a fellow devotee of plain crisps without the salt. I am of an age to remember that that was the only kind available once. The salt came in a little twist, sometimes you would get more than one in a bag, occasionally none at all. In my part of the world they were made by Tudor Crisps (since taken over by Walkers, I believe). Such is the power of memory that I can remember my first ever packet when I was 4 years old. They were in a tin box at the back of the Coop butchers' van which came round daily. My mother had gone out to buy some meat for lunch and I was fascinated by the picture of Henry VIII on the front of the tin. I pestered her to buy me some and eventually she gave in. She had to show me how to open the packet and shake the salt. They cost the enormous sum of 3d.
