My Hannes mccaw has found her way up to top of wall cabinets in kitchen and has started to strip the paper. I can't let her out with being in kitchen all the time . I should never have let her fly. Would it be cruel now to have her wings clipped.?She is not doing it out of boredom as she gets plenty attention and is very tame and has lots of toys.Thanks for any help with replies.

That should read without being in kitchen all the time.
No It's not cruel. Wing clipping is a way of preventing damage to your property and to the parrot itself. Parrots very often fly into windows and die so for that reason I always clip my parrots wings. It does not hurt if done properly and whilst keeping the last few flight feathers on you wouldn't know they are clipped.

This won't stop your parrot chewing skirting boards or carpets etc or flying to the floor when they fancy a stroll, but it does stop them flying into or out of windows. Lot's of people will disagree but having had parrots for over twenty years, I believe it is necessary.

Thank you for your reply. I have found that the parrot farm does them not far from where I live. Being a hannes mccaw she is not a large bird so I don't think she woud be too destructive such as skirting boards ect. But she has just got a start flying up top of units and keeps going up there but luckily she flies to me when I go in kitchen when I say OFF OF THERE .But that's not always going to work.
Why not put some of her toys up there are a few twigs to play with.
Hahn's macaws are very intelligent and it would cause her some stress having her wings clipped now after being used to flying.
are = or

To Wildwood thank you for your advice as I was very unsure what to do .I have now got a board put up along back of top cabinets and when she goes up there she won't get at the paper.I have also put up some toys so will see what she does in the afternoon. I have no fear of her flying out window or door as I carefully choose times to let them out . I also have a cockatiel. Thanks again icemaiden for your reply and if this don't work I may have to carry out the wingclip but will give this a go first.
