Nice on, jj. My greyhound used to eat them off the bushes. Two of the dogs I have now will eat them if I pick them, but they have trouble reaching the berries themselves. The others either turn their nose up or take them then spit them out.
Have you noticed they seem to be all small ones this year?
Our little dog loves blackberries and picks them too. The dog before her stripped the wild plum tree of plums on its lower branches. We didn't know she had and realised afterwards why she had a couple of bad attacks of the squits.
I must say its not seen every day, so no not usual. However it is natural, wild wolves will also eat berries, not necessarily an important component of their diet but they eat them for recreational purposes as we also do.
It just goes to show that whatever dog you have, it is still actually a wolf at heart and their digestive system is still identical to a wolf, this should be considered when feeding your dog/wolf.

Lottie,my labrador, picks blackberries off the bushes. In fact she loves all the fruit we have tried her on (never grapes though as they can be poisonous to dogs) Once her friend Meg,a cocker spaniel, realised Lottie likes blackberries, she started eating them too!!
