Can anyone identify this creature _I do not think it is a tick.

I am very used to my dog having ticks but have never seen a tick like this before. It is totally white, about 8 mm long and very flat. (OK I dare say it would have filled out after feeding) It caused my dog more irritation than ticks usually do and it is the second one he has picked up during the last week. I live in Argyll and he is taken for walks in forestry ground.

Thanks to all the replies. As I said it is totally unlike any tick I have seen before (and believe me, I have met plenty having lived on a sheep farm for 30+ years!) I have never seen one so large as this one when empty, so totally white (the photograph did not show it up very well) and the dog re-acted differently as these ones were driving him totally wild. He scratches when he gets a normal tick, but with these he was chewing his hair out in mouthfulls. It was at least 8 mm from head to end which is far larger than normal. Other ticks, even when unfed, their bodies still seem to be rounded, while this one was flat and floppy.
