Water Butt Tap

The tap on my water butt is the usual plastic job that these things always are. I find it increasingly difficult to turn on and off as it is very stiff and I have visions of the whole thing breaking off one day and the contents of the butt flooding my garden. Does anyone know of a better tap that can be fitted to a plastic butt?

Do the job properly, drain the butt, take the old tap to your local plumbing supply centre and they will supply you with the correct tap, probably a brass one.

I've got a water butt that's hard to get to I have a short piece of hosepipe attached to it - it's just pushed over the end (If you put the pipe in boiling water first it's easy enough).

Then at the other end I have a small piece of copper pipe with a washing machine tap like this attached

It's just 90 degrees on and off
Have you tried spraying it with WD40 and then wriggling it about to loosen it?

Thanks all, I wasn't sure if it was possible to fit a proper metal tap to a plastic butt. That is probably the best option.
