Traversing Speed Humps
When traversing speed humps in my front wheel drive Polo I always depress the clutch under the impression that it prevents shock travelling through the transmission and causing possible damage. Am I wasting my effort ?

I do the same thing Dereck, you are not causing any damage unless you are speeding over them, that in-turn CAN crack the coil suspension springs make no doubt about that.

We have speed blocks on some roads round here, which are really annoying since they are just too narrow for both tyres to traverse them but not wide enough so that one wheel is usually higher than the other when crossing them. I don't like that, the car feels wonky going over them, so like you slow up when going over them,
Hi boxy. Been trying to get back on the site for weeks but Ed didn't send me a reset your password thingy, so I had to re-register. Think this site has got serious technical issues. Anyway, my daughter was here for a couple of weeks, which was fabulous, so now just trying to get back to normal. How are you?
Dereck, if you can prove that the ramp had contributed to the broken spring " Sue them, I have done this with network rail in our town, there is a level crossing and its like going up a dirt stoned track I went & took a dozen pics from all angles, sent them with a letter to N.R & stated if this crossing damaged my Suspension I would sue them, THIS DID happen after a lot of telephone calls, a month later N.R. Paid up, N.R.are here in Dec to fully repair the crossing, if my springs go again, I will sue them again as I still have the pics, I am not a Claim Claim Claim person but I expect a decent road & crossing for the road tax I pay, stick to you guns, get your facts/ pics timed & dated, you then have the evidence you need, its a pity that every one did not take this stance, its a load of bullsht that there is no money for repairs, how often do you see bloody stupid cycle lane lines getting put in place when they do not even pay for road use.
