Saw this last night on another site....it's sick, and shows that even members of the hunting brigade have no respect for what are unwritten guidelines.....leave the animals be during rutting season. Money rules,as always...along with so-called status.
Look at him here...he was magnificent.....

i can remember seeing these wonderful beasts every morning in the isle of arran. cant find words to show my anger, and sadness at man!! are we really civilised or still cavemen!!!
I hope whoever it is is hanging his head in shame...but he is most likely quite proud of himself.... :-(

Because he holds a hunting license.
I hope the Daily Mail feel pleased with themselves for splashing his picture over their pages, thus advertising his existance to hunters.
Deer stalking is a perfectly legal activity provided you have the necessary permits etc. So it was reputably the largest stag in UK, what about the next largest.........or perhaps the smallest. At the end of the day it is venison and very tasty too.
I assume you didn't actually read the story then, 237SJ?
Chuck, the story piggynose links to does say papers recently printed pictures of the stag (it doesn't specify the Mail), and the implication is that a reader saw them and decided to help himself.
Well the story as I see it chuck is that his picture is all over the mail then a few days later he is dead. Coincidence? I wouldn`t be surprised if it was someone from out of the area who saw his picture in the papers and decided he`d love the kudos of being the one that kills the animal.
Printing the pictures is one thing....finding the stag is another.

Yes...venison may taste nice...but so sad to see such a magnificent beast killed all for some Snags ego.
I`m from the Exmoor area and near my village there is one of those huge black cats. A few of us in the village have seen it and I know the tree where is scratches it`s claws. All of us who know it`s territory have kept quiet because if it was advertised that the animal is around there we know exactly what would happen. The picture was splashed by a load of London-bound journalists who don`t have the faintest idea of what goes on in the country. They print a picture to say "look, what a big animal" without the faintest idea of the consequences. They are 90% to blame. What do you say Ratter - don`t you agree?
Shooting a magnificent animal like that just to put down your throat or boast about it is a sin...I hope they choke on whatever they eat next.
As a slight aside, someone deleted me on FB the other day as I took offence to their partner shooting animals "for fun", so it does go on and often by people who you wouldn't have thought of.
I would not consider that FB 'friend' a loss.......
lol, no I don't pasta. I was just astonished to be honest!
I fully accept the difference in approach to animals from 'city' people as opposed to 'country' people, but I am sure everyone will agree that shooting this magnificent animal before the end of the rutting season means he may not have mated successfully, and his genes may not be passed on.

Yes, it's legal to have shot this stag, but that does not make it a worthwile activity.

hiya andy.

whether its because im "city born and bred", I dunno, but I feel deeply uncomfortable about anyone shooting animals for fun and entertainment. Because they're a pest, yes, because they possibly a danger yes and for food yes, but for fun? No sorry, I can't accept that. It's just wrong.
