I have a pal who is an OAP and recieving Pension Credits, she is finding it hard to pay vet bills, is she entitled to us the PDSA vets, I believe you have to make a donation ?

as far as i know anyone receiving benefits can visit a pdsa.

I think you can only get free care at the PDSA if you live near a centre and get Council Tax Benefit or Housing Benefit and make a donation. They have a website so it may be worth checking that. Hope that helps.

Many thanx to both, she doesnt have a computer but I can do it for her & take her there, she is very attached to this old cat.

To qualify, pet owners need to:

Live within the defined catchment area of a PDSA PetAid hospital or practice service.
Be receiving either Housing Benefit or Council Tax Benefit *

* Please note that only Council Tax Benefit can be accepted. Other reductions in Council Tax e.g. single person discount, second adult rebate and council tax exemption do not qualify.

Please note you will be asked to make a donation to PDSA for any treatment your pet receives.

I had a friend with an old dog, she was very ill (the friend not the dog) friend did a lot of fund raising for the PDSA. Sadly PDSA didn't give a lot of support to her when the dog became ill. Tracy died, still worry what happened to the dog .
Tracy was 41, still worry how the dog is doing. Not a constructive answer, just me ranting!!

i think she would be entitled to treat her pets for free best thing would be to call them or look at their website and contact them via email x

I didn't know they were benefits-linked these days - I took my old cats there many years ago when they had flu and I had no vet, all I had to give was a donation, they didn't ask if I was earning.

Our local vet takes PDSA patients, as do many other independant vet practices, if you visit the PDSA site, you can print off a form to fill in and send off, and also find your nearest participating vet practice, it's worth doing if you're retired or on benefits! You can also get the form at your vets. if you don''t have access to the internet....

Forgot to mention, you can give a donation, whatever you can afford, but you don't have to do it if you cannot afford to!.....

lots of vets will treat your pet for a lower price if you are on some kind of benefit
