recommend buying a Basset Hound?

If any of you own Bassets, please let me know what they're like as pets? They're certainly endearing to look at.

This is the second request for info on Bassets in less than a week - the link given below is a very good one for information. If you are serious about getting one, why not visit a few breeders and see their dogs at home - you will get a good idea of what they are like to live with. Reputable breeders will welcome you finding out about them, and you will be able to ask any questions and maybe put your name down for a suitable puppy if you think they are the right breed for you. Not a breed to take on lightly, so please think long and hard about it.
I thought the other enquiry was beagles?
No, it was in the thread headed New Dog For Old, but someone suggested a Beagle rather than a Basset.
my parents had five of them (not all at once - max was 2 plus other breeds as each time one of us kids left home we were replaced by a dog and two cats. They are highly intelligent to the point of being stooopid and stubborn as hell. Their back ends go down, their hips lock in and try and move them.

They are trainable though....................
