Large lump on Border Collie's ribs

Found a large, orange sized lump on the rear left ribs of my Border Collie. Managed to get him into the vets who have given me two types of antibiotics and some other meds. They did find a little nick in the skin so were hoping it's an infection rather than anything more serious. Have to take him back to vets on Tuesday. He seems fine in himself. Has anyone (Lankeela?) experienced anything similar?
I've done all the google research but was just after a bit of personal experience.

Not for several years now, lost my last one Bryn when he was thirteen back in 1998. He was a rescue from a farm in Wales, farmer let the bitch get pregnant then was going to get the vet to put the pups down but it snowed heavily and before the vet could get there my friend's mum got the four pups and brought them to Norfolk. He was blue and white (grey really) and such a character.

You must have mentioned him before. They've all got such different characters haven't they. I believe the type you had is known as a Merle in the states and Australia. Mine only has a patch over one eye, the other 'slipped' and is just a spot on his head.

No he wasn't a blue merle, which is a white background splashed or marbled with black, he was all grey with white collar and feet. I did have a blue merle but he was a Smooth Collie (like Lassie with short hair!). Oh dear, this is turning into memory lane -Ryan was born in 1989, and he was eleven when I lost him. He was the first dog I had that qualified for Crufts. Must get round to sorting photos and putting them on the computer.

Oh wow, don't think I've ever seen a grey and White one. Zac is 8 so I was hoping be was (am) still only just over half way through his life.
