Are there wild chipmunks in the UK

I was travelling into Truro yesterday down the back lanes and there in the kerb was this squirrel like thing but with chipmunk colours, the black, grey and white down each side of the back and onto the tail.

Are there now wild chipmunks in Britain or can squirrels take on these markings?

I am serious about this, and it isn't a wind up like the recently posted Nigerian Hedgehog.....

So what will this mean for our wildlife? Another grey squirrel getting rid of the red squirrel story? What animal is the chipmunk likely to run out?
