There`s a bird that sings here (I think it`s a native bird) and although it`s hard to describe obviously, it has a two-tone call - a high note followed by a low note (in the same sort of way that a cuckoo calls). I thought it was a chiffchaff but I listened to one on youtube and it`s not. I think it`s quite a small bird judging by the sound. Any ideas? I don`t know what to google to have a listen
Hi rowan
I`ll have to conclude it`s the Great Tit too. I`ve been all through the RSPB site and I can`t find anything else that sounds like it at all. As it was singing in March/April I presume it was a male calling for a mate. It sounds a lot different to the town Great Tits.
I'll second great tit.
Often they dont always sing their expected 2 tone "teacher teacher" song, but do a different sounding song. Usually of 2 'syllables' though. I presume these are the great tits who havent read the bird song book yet and got their act together ;)
