As above. Not a huge problem as he is house trained and has been for ages, but I feel that its only because we take him out, he never "asks"
He goes out first thing, and does loads of wees and a couple of poos on walks, but its more the evenings I'm concerned about.
Once we all settle down for the evening, he's quite happy to settle with us,but it can be a while before one of us says "when did Geoff last wee?"
then one of us takes him out and he invariably needs to go.
How can I train him to ask, or should I just be happy that he can hold it until we take him out?

When you take him out at night he invariably goes as this is a learned behaviour. Has you ever forgotten and has he than soiled inside? If not, you have one of those ideal dogs that will go when let out and you are lucky.

His morning antics is more than likely brought on by happiness/nervousness that he is outside.

Don't worry, be happy. When Geoff gets older, like 12 or more, you might start getting some accidents so you may than have to alter his toilet habits - access to the backyard through a flap etc.
The older he gets the longer he will be able to hold on. Some dogs I know won't go away from home and can hold it all day and night if they are away from home. You are lucky that he is used to going when you let him out. Just remember to let him out at regular intervals because a dog that holds it in can cause kidney problems.

Thanks both, seems like I should be counting my blessings then, rather than worrying that I haven't trained him properly!
He never goes more than 3 hours without going out Lankeela, which I imagine is ok.
Think its happiness and excitement out on walks wildwood, plus an insatiable need to annoint every lamp post and tree!
