CAN ANYONE HELP IDENTIFY A BIRDSONG?

Can anyone please help me try to identify a birdsong which I hear loud and clear every morning and evening but am unable to actually see the bird itself? It sounds like WH WHO WHOO? Someone has lent me 4 CDs of birdsong - some 200 birds - but I've tried listening to the most common garden birds, but none sound like the bird I can hear?

It's a bit of an ask but if anyone can possibly point me in the right direction, I would be very grateful.

Thanks - I've just listened to a collared dove on the CD but it doesn't sound anything like what I can hear. Thanks for your help, though - I'll just keep ploughing through the CDs!

my guess female tawny owl male does the toowhit or keewick the female does the toowoo or whoo whooo mostly call at dusk but will call just before full sunrise too

Sounds like a woodpigeon from here too. We have loads of them around. I always think they sound as though they're having a really dirty laugh at me.

Could be a Hoopoe? Are you near Kent? They have just spotted one there. Lovely looking birds. Saw one in Majorca once.

I agree with Redman, the RSPB web site has the sounds of all UK birds.

Do you have an iphone mjulian?

If so, then download a free ap called Chirp! which is great to use when you are out and about and trying to identify birds.
