I have a family of them nesting high up in my chimney. Needless to say, I've avoided lighting a fire since they 'moved in'.
Esrly this morning I heard a muffled "Caw!" sounds and a bit of flapping coming from my fireplace. It only dawned on me that there was something not right a few hours later after I got up ! I shone a torch up the chimney and there he was perched on the slopey bit where the chimney hole widens. I went right in there with both hands, and in a flurry of feathers, talons and ash he was out and flying round my room. I crept up behind him, grabbed him and directed him out of my open window !
It was very satisfying to see him perched back up on the gable end being fed by one of the parents.
Does anyone else have any mildly interesting, 'god I'm bored' true stories of animal rescue ?

I had a couple of fledgeling crows when I was a kid. Someone shot their nest out of the tree. It was a full time job feeding them with crushed snails from my mum`s red hot poker plant. Luckily the parents took them back when I put them in the field behind the house which is unusual when they`ve been tainted by humans.

It's a good job you managed to re-unite them. I've heard that crows can easily take to humans if hand reared, they can even be taught to speak (like mynah birds).
The problem of jackdaws nesting in Chimneys was a far bigger problem Years ago when most people had coal fires.
Doesn't half clear the soot from the Chimney though !!
I've rescued all sorts...hedgehogs being the most frequent but I did stop some youths stoning a mallard with ducklings by pushing two of them into the pond... mum reckons I was probably around 8 at the time....always did act first and think later the pond wasn't deep but very smelly...
You pushed the kids in the pond, or the ducks?

(I hope the kids)
