garden full of dangerous objects and it only escape route...?
this is no big deal the moment but just wondered if there was any laws etc being broken...
my mates flat is above a shop and neither the 2 flats above or the shop have access to the back garden...which is fine - thats up to the landlord...
however...the only way out of the back of the property is out of an upstairs window into the garden - but its full of old bits of shop equipment and machinery - such as perspex shelving, metal units and even an ice-cream cart...
some of these are up against the building
the flats are about the width of a door and a normal bay window, but very long, going back about the length of about 4 ordinary size rooms...there is a fire exit from the middle flat but not the top one, but it still only leads to the same staircase and the front door.
a thought occurred to me that in the event of a fire if anyone was stuck at the back theyd have no option but to jump out of the window...onto all the jagged debris below...which i have no doubt would seriously injure, if not kill...
so ...my mates arent looking to cause any trouble...but would kind of like the landlord to clear up the garden.
these thoughts came about really because they would actually like the landlord to possibly allow them use of it in the future, to sit out in the sun etc
so is there any law that says they must clear this stuff away?
it is not tonnes of stuff, so would perhaps require about 2-3 skips to clear...its also full of branches and less dangerous junk.
it is not accessable from anywhere...the only way into it is through a neighbours gate and over a wall...so itd be a bit of a pain for them to arrange... and probably why they havent already done it.
any ideas?
thanks
