Can't do it now as in a flat but always liked to decorate a conifer in the garden for the birds.... strings of peanuts, fat balls, and other goodies.... looks great with a host of little living decorations on it especially the long tail and blue tits

Nice to see kindness shown to the Birds and it would brighten up the Garden as well.
I love birds as well, sounds very good of you Rowan, shame you can't do it no more.
Ever since I rescued a Raven that had fall down my chimney (No Cowl) over a year ago two of them seem to follow me about, I'm not sure if it's me gone nuts but it is good to see them. (and they are far bigger up close than you think) lol.
rowan .... no where you can fix a decorative bracket up and hang food from that?

netted balconies and a strict ban on feeding birds due to pigeons and rodents... really miss my old garden had 17 feeding places in the summer and nearly double that in the winter if the weather was really harsh
How about your local park to hang goodies from?

Check with your local council first tho, might be a good idea.
Ah! I understand .. what a shame!

I have been known to hang spare fat balls in the bushes on the way to work..
Keep doing it Rowan:)

Sorry to hear about the netted balconies. My back garden is semi-wild (well fully wild, really) and we have some lovely little birds popping in and out. The front of our house is taken up with flying rats, crows and seagulls.
Alba, 'flying rats'? is that pigeons?
I used to think pigeons were OK, I wouldn't harm them but they can be rather nasty little critters.
Ahh I just didn't know for sure what type of bird you meant, I'm not overly fond of them myself. As suggested they are flying disease carriers.
I'm sure they are on this planet for a reason. So are wasps I s'pose.

I do like my back garden tho, with the sparrows, finches and so on. I must get a bird-book to help me identify them all.
I'll just phone Bill Oddie up and ask him? What The Funicular is that? (what on earth, oops)
Wasps are aggressive by nature but as you say they must have a purpose.
