Mediterranean Gulls
1 Answers
Coming up from South Bay this morning we met a lady with a bag of bread at the Holbeck Hill car park, Scarborough. She was amazed at the gulls with pure white tails among the usual Black Headed which live by scrounging here. When we told her they were "Meds" she was delighted. There were about ten and they are well established at this spot. Luckily for them the Peregrines at the castle cliff don;t usually usually patrol this far.

It always amazes me how anyone can spot a 'different' gull out of an enormous flock of seemingly all alike birds. I remember being at Radipole RSPB one day and watching a huge flock of gulls on an island when a man came up and said ' a good number of 'Meds' there. He very kindly pointed out the difference, but for all my birding enthusiasm I still find gulls a mystery!
