I have reently put up two feeders contaiing nyger seed and we have several goldfinches visiting every day. Do any other species eat nyger seed? The only ones we've seen so far have been the goldfinches.

Siskins definitely seem to enjoy the nyger in my garden, I think I've seen tits eating it as well.

A great tit is scoffing suet pellets at the moment and a robin is on the ground hoovering up whatever gets dropped.

Thank you, EcclesCake. I'll look out for siskins. I put some currants in soak last night and the robins seem to love them. My OH was disappointed, he thought I was going to bake a cake.
I have several fairly busy feeders and decided to dedicate one to nyger seed having read on hear of their success. Its been three weeks now and no a single birdie has even landed on it let alone eaten anything. All other feeders with regular seed mix and peanuts have been refilled a couple of times in that period, but no sign of the nyger seed lovers.

Any thoughts?
siskins and if you are really lucky bramblings will collect nyger if it falls on th4 ground sometimes takes a while for them to find it,, change the seed every couple of weeks (throw the old on the ground)

I tried nyger after spotting one goldfinch but they never touched it so after about a year I took them down. Then one day I added a feeder with only sunflower hearts in & the goldfinches came and have stayed around, I'm so pleased!
I have two feeders one of sunflower seed hearts and the other with nyger seed, both are hanging on a feeding pole with a couple of trays underneath for water etc, we have lots of goldfinches and other finches even the occasional visit from siskins, they tend to eat from both feeders, but the other day a wood pigeon had perched on one of the trays within reach of the nyger seed and was helping himself to the nyger seed - he usually picks up the stuff on the ground but I'd never seen him trying to eat from the feeders. He seems to be very enterprising
I do not have any success with nyger seed in feeders. They just ignore it!
What's the best size hole? Might try a different one to see if that makes any improvement.
Its not the size of the hole its the shape of the perch they like the type with ring perches better than straight ones
I get ring doves on my nyger seed feeder, hence im on my third feeder this year!! have sussed out a way to stop them landing on the seed catcher now so hopefully no more more broken feeders! I have also had sparrows, greenfinches and the odd starling!!
