I've just gone bleary eyed for a ciggy and thought what are they all over my crab apple? Waxwings! I'm so excited I've never seen one before. Sorry the picture was taken in such a panic it's not brilliant. South Dorset for the location.

Brilliant....I'm so jealous Prudie. I've never seen one :o( Great Picture x
Wow! Prudie...you lucky, lucky person. Aren't they the most beautiful sight? x
We had up to 30 long tailed tits in the Rowan tree a few weeks ago...We also have a woodpecker that visits occasionally.. But no Waxwings, I think we must be too far North
Mazie...the waxwings come in from Russia and Scandinavia and work down the country so don't despair.

I've taken quite a few but nothing of quality. I will load some more in a bit. Problem is I don't have the right lens and am doing it over the stable door. I worry that if I go out to get closer they'll fly away.
Mazie...do you have a local bird group that posts sightings? That's how I know when they are near me. Type in Waxwing sightings near ???????? and something may pop up.
doing it over the stable door can be good sometimes -prudie
Many thanks gness...I'll do it now. You live in a Stable Prudie ?
Question Author
No mazie, you know what I mean! Our kitchen door is split top and bottom.
Beejay, don't go there, not on this thread anyway :-)
Well, I did have a lovely image of Prudie's waxwings......now ????? ;-)
It seems all the sightings in this area were in November and December :o(
Lovely!. Now I'm going to plant a crab apple tree.
very exotic looking bird aren't they! I stuck my head out to see the weather situation and saw a solitary one perched in a tree. first one this year.
They go home around March Mazie so they may pass again. Keep looking.
